Vietnam: Inflation picks up in January

In January, consumer prices rose 1.25% over the previous month, which was above the 0.27% increase recorded in December. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the reading was driven by higher prices for medicine and health care.
As a result of the monthly price rise, annual inflation edged up from 6.8% in December to 7.1% in January. Nonetheless, annual average inflation fell from 9.1% in December to 8.3% in January, the lowest level since October 2010.
