Vietnam: Inflation eases slightly in February

Consumer prices increased 0.23% from the previous month in February, down from January’s 0.46% increase. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, higher prices for transportation were behind February’s increase, while most categories had virtually unchanged prices.

Inflation came in at 5.0% in February, which was slightly below January’s 5.2%. Annual average inflation was 3.3% in February, up from 3.0% in January.

Core consumer prices, which exclude food items, energy products and commodities, increased 0.20% month-on-month in February, which was lower than January’s 0.28% increase.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 3.9% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. According to the panel, average inflation will accelerate to 4.5% in 2018.
