Vietnam: Annual consumer prices unchanged in September

In September, consumer prices fell 0.21%, which followed August’s decrease of 0.08%. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, September’s price decrease resulted from declines in 4 of the 11 components of the index, with the transport component observing the largest decrease.

Annual consumer prices were unchanged in September, after growing 0.6% in August, resulting in the lowest figure since November 2001. Annual average inflation decreased from 1.5% in August to 1.2% in September, which marked the lowest level since April 2002. As a result, average inflation dropped further below the Central Bank’s target of 5.0% for 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 1.8% in 2015, which is down 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. According to the panel, average inflation will accelerate to 3.8% in 2016.
