Vietnam: Industrial production growth edges down in May

In May, industrial production rose 7.2% over the same month last year, which was down from the 7.4% rise in April. Looking at the sub-components of industrial production, manufacturing output rose a solid 11.2% in May, while mining and quarrying output contracted sharply for yet another month.

In month-on-month terms, industrial production expanded 1.7% in May (April: -0.8% mom). Meanwhile, the annual average growth of industrial production was stable at 7.4% in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants estimate that industrial output will grow 8.2% in 2017, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect industrial production to expand 8.6%.
