Vietnam: Industrial production decelerates in December
January 23, 2013
In December, industrial output expanded 5.9% over the same month the previous year, which was down from the 6.7% increase observed in November. The deceleration was mostly the result of a slowdown in the manufacturing sector, which grew 4.5% in December, well below the 8.1% expansion seen in November.
A month-on-month comparison, however, does not corroborate the deceleration suggested by the annual data, as industrial production expanded a seasonally adjusted 5.0% over the previous month, which was above the 4.8% increase recorded in November.
In the full year 2012, industrial production growth averaged 6.4%, which was below the 6.8% increase registered in 2011.
