Vietnam: Growth in industrial production accelerates in March

April 7, 2015

In March, industrial output rose 9.1% over the same month last year, which was an acceleration over the 7.0% increase recorded in the previous month. March’s acceleration was broad-based. Manufacturing as well as electricity, gas and water registered the fastest increases over the previous month.

Industrial production in March rose 25.8% over the previous month, which contrasted the 19.2% drop seen in February. Annual average growth in industrial production rose from 8.1% in February to 8.5% in March. The month-on-month variation was affected by a base effect due to the Lunar New Year, which was celebrated in February this year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants estimate that industrial output will grow 7.3% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect that industrial production will expand 9.3%.
