Vietnam: Growth in GDP level in Q2

In Q2 2015, GDP expanded 6.4% over the same period last year, according to data released by the General Statistics Office (GSO) of Vietnam. This marked an improvement over Q1’s 6.1% expansion.

In the first six months up to June, GDP expanded 6.3% over the same period last year. At the sector level, agriculture expanded 2.3% over the same period last year (Jan-Jun 2014: +3.0% year-on-year). In addition, services rose 5.9% in the six months up to June, which was slightly below the 6.0% increase observed in the same period last year. Conversely, industry expanded 9.1% (Jan-Jun 2014: +5.5% yoy).

The government targets growth of 6.2% for 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see the economy growing 6.3% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists project the economy to expand 6.4%.
