United States: Retail sales remain strong in March

In March, retail sales increased 0.8% over the previous month in nominal terms. The rise was down from the revised 1.0% expansion recorded in February (previously reported: +1.1% month-on-month) but widely overshot market expectations of a 0.3% increase. 11 out of the 13 subcategories composing the index expanded in March, with sales of building materials and at gasoline stations recording the largest gains.
