United Kingdom: Unemployment falls further in June, continues to be at an over-five-year low
August 13, 2014
In July, jobless claims fell 33,600 over the previous month, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The print was smaller than the revised 39,500 drop recorded in June (previously reported: -36,300) and exceeded the 30,000 decrease in jobless claims the markets had expected.
The unemployment rate—derived from a different survey—fell to 6.4% in the three months up to June, which was down from the 6.5% tallied in the three months up to May. The figure was in line with market expectations and marked the lowest unemployment rate since December 2008.
