United Kingdom: Inflation steady for fourth month in a row
February 12, 2013
In January, consumer prices decreased 0.5% over the preceding month. The reading contrasted the 0.5% increase tallied in December but was in line with market expectations. Eight out of the 12 sub-categories that compose the index were either unchanged or below the level seen in December, with the largest downward contribution stemming from a 5.4% month-on-month drop in prices for clothing and footwear.
Despite the monthly drop, annual headline inflation remained steady at 2.7% for a fourth month in a row. The figure had represented the highest rate since May. Annual average inflation also remained unchanged over the previous month at 2.8%.
