United Kingdom: Inflation stabilizes in February

In February, consumer prices increased 0.2% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.8% decrease seen in January and marked the highest reading in six months. The figure reflected higher prices for food prices, particularly for vegetables.

Inflation was 0.3% in February, which mirrored January’s reading, thus remaining at the highest level in over a year. The figure was down from the 0.4% expected by the markets. Finally, annual average inflation inched up from a flat reading in January to 0.1% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 0.1% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel forecasts that inflation will average 1.3%.
