United Kingdom: Industry improves in October

December 8, 2015

In October, industrial production expanded 0.1% in seasonally-adjusted terms over the previous month, which came in above the flat reading seen in September and met market expectations. Manufacturing decreased 0.4% in October, which contrasted the 0.9% increase tallied in September. The monthly expansion reflected a rebound in mining and quarrying while electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning decelerated over the previous month.

Industrial production grew 1.7% over the same month last year, which was above the 1.5% increase recorded in September. Annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 1.2% in September to 1.3% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.3% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 1.5%.
