United Kingdom: Industry improves in March

In March, industrial production increased 0.3% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted the 0.2% decrease tallied in February. The monthly increase broadly reflected expansions in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning. Manufacturing increased a weak 0.1% in March, which contrasted the previous month’s 0.9% contraction.

Industrial production contracted 0.2% over the same month of the previous year in March, which contrasted the 0.1% increase recorded in February. Annual average growth in industrial production dropped from 1.0% in February to 0.8% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.3% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 1.5%.
