United Kingdom: Industry deteriorates in February

In February, industrial production decreased 0.3% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted the 0.2% increase seen in January. Manufacturing decreased 1.1% in February, which contrasted the previous month’s 0.5% increase. The monthly decrease reflected contractions in mining and quarrying as well as in oil, gas and electricity.

Industrial production contracted 0.5% over the same month of the previous year in February, which contrasted the 0.1% increase recorded in January. Annual average growth in industrial production was stable in February at January’s 0.9%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.3% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 1.5%.
