United Kingdom: Consumer confidence stable in March

April 4, 2016

In March, the GfK NOP consumer confidence indicator tallied 0 points, thus matching the previous month’s reading and remaining at the lowest reading in over a year.

March’s reading mainly reflects a deterioration in consumers’ perceptions regarding both the general economic situation and their personal finances in the next 12 months. Moreover, consumers were less willing to make major purchases in March compared to the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 3.0% in 2016, which is unchanged over last month’s estimate. For 2017, the panel sees private consumption expanding 2.7%.
