United Kingdom: Consumer confidence plummets in February

February 29, 2016

In February, the GfK NOP consumer confidence indicator dropped to 0 points from 4 points in January, thus reaching the lowest reading in over a year.

February’s reading mainly reflects a deterioration in consumers’ perceptions regarding both the general economic situation and their personal finances in the next 12 months. Moreover, consumers were less willing to make major purchases in February compared to the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 3.0% in 2016, which is unchanged over last month’s estimate. For 2017, the panel sees private consumption expanding 2.7%.
