United Kingdom: Consumer confidence index stable in February

February 27, 2015

In February, the GfK NOP consumer confidence indicator was stable at January’s 1.0 point, which had marked the highest level since August 2014.

February’s figure was driven by an improvement in consumers’ expectations regarding their personal financial situation over the next 12 months. In addition, consumers’ perceptions regarding the general economic situation over the next 12 months were better compared to the previous month. However, their willingness to make major purchases deteriorated slightly compared to January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.8% in 2015, which is up 0.2 percentage points over last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption expanding 2.5%.
