United Kingdom: Consumer confidence index improves in August

September 1, 2015

In August, the GfK NOP consumer confidence indicator increased from 4.0 point in July to 7.0 points.

August’s reading reflects an improvement in consumers’ perceptions regarding their personal finances as well as the general economic situation in the next 12 months. Adding to that, consumers were more willing to make major purchases in August compared to the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.8% in 2015, which is up 0.2 percentage points over last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption expanding 2.5%.
