United Kingdom: Consumer confidence index falls in May

May 29, 2015

In May, the GfK NOP consumer confidence indicator fell to 1.0 point from 4.0 points in April .

May’s figure reflects a deterioration in consumers’ perceptions regarding their personal finances as well as the general economic situation in the next 12 months. Adding to that, consumers were less willing to make major purchases in May compared to the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.8% in 2015, which is up 0.2 percentage points over last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption expanding 2.5%.
