United Kingdom: Consumer confidence index drops in July

July 30, 2015

In July, the GfK NOP consumer confidence indicator dropped from 7.0 point in June to 4.0 points. June’s figure had marked the highest reading since January 2000.

July’s reading reflects a deterioration in consumers’ perceptions regarding their personal finances as well as the general economic situation in the next 12 months. Adding to that, consumers were less willing to make major purchases in July compared to the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.8% in 2015, which is up 0.2 percentage points over last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption expanding 2.5%.
