United Arab Emirates: Inflation ticks up in March

Consumer prices in the UAE rose 0.40% in March, up from February’s 0.21%. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, March’s increase was driven by higher prices for transportation, beverages and tobacco, and textiles, clothing and footwear. In contrast, food prices fell in March compared to the prior month.

Inflation rose from 2.8% in February to 3.0% in March, while annual average inflation rose from 1.6% in February to 1.8% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 2.5% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel sees inflation increasing slightly to 3.2%.
