United Arab Emirates: Inflation stable in May

In May, consumer prices rose 0.25% over the previous month, below the 0.38% increase witnessed in April. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, transportation was the component that observed the largest monthly increase in prices in May, while food and soft drinks saw the most substantial decrease.

Inflation was stable at April’s 1.6%. Annual average inflation dropped from 3.4% in April to 3.2% in May, its lowest level since April 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 3.1% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points over last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees inflation easing to 3.1%.
