United Arab Emirates: Inflation increases in December

In December, consumer prices rose 0.34% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.20% decrease tallied in the previous month and marked a three-month high. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the figure mainly reflected higher prices for education, furniture and household goods as well as for housing.

Annual inflation rose from 2.8% in November to 3.1% in December. In addition, annual average inflation inched up from 2.2% in November to 2.3% in December, marking the highest rate on record.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to be at 3.0% in 2015, which is up 0.4 percentage points over last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel sees inflation rising to 3.4%.
