United Arab Emirates: Inflation eases in March

In March, consumer prices fell 0.11% over the previous month, which followed the revised flat growth that was observed in February (previously reported: -0.24% month-on-month). The figure marks the third monthly reading in succession in which there was no price increase. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, transportation was the component that observed the largest monthly fall in prices in March, while prices for housing saw a modest increase.

Inflation inched down from 2.5% in February to 1.4% in March. Annual average inflation dropped from February’s 3.9% to 3.6% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 3.9% in 2016, which is unchanged over last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees inflation easing to 3.4%.
