United Arab Emirates: Inflation drops in April

Consumer prices fell 0.37% in April, contrasting March’s 0.40% rise. According to the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, April’s dip was driven by lower prices for transportation, furniture and household goods and communication. In contrast, food prices rose in April compared to the prior month.

Inflation decreased from 3.0% in March to 2.2% in April, while annual average inflation remained at 1.8%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 2.5% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel sees inflation increasing slightly to 3.2%.
