In December, consumer prices dropped 0.29% compared to the previous month, contrasting the 0.33% rise seen in November. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, December’s fall was driven by lower prices for food and soft drinks, transportation and recreation and culture.

Inflation declined significantly from 2.6% in November to 1.2% in December, marking the lowest result since May 2013, while annual average inflation dipped from 2.0% in November to 1.8% in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 2.5% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel sees inflation increasing slightly to 3.1%.
