Ukraine: Inflation drops to two-year low

Consumer prices rose 3.5% in April over the previous month, which followed March’s 1.0% increase. April’s rise marked a one-year high.

Inflation fell notably from March’s 20.9% to 9.8% in April, which marked the lowest reading since April 2014. Inflation in Ukraine has stabilized in recent months after skyrocketing last year amid a drastic depreciation in the currency. Annual average inflation eased from 47.3% in March to 43.0%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end 2016 at 14.1%, which is down 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees inflation easing to 9.3%.
