Ukraine: Inflation drops to over-two-year low

Consumer prices rose 0.1% in May over the previous month, which was notably below April’s 3.5% increase. April’s rise had marked a one-year high.

Inflation fell notably from April’s 9.8% to 7.5% in May, which marked the lowest reading since April 2014. Inflation in Ukraine has fallen in recent months after skyrocketing last year amid a drastic depreciation in the currency. Annual average inflation eased from 43.0% in April to 38.8%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end 2016 at 13.0%, which is down 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees inflation easing to 9.3%.
