Ukraine: Inflation continues steep climb in November

December 8, 2014

In November, consumer prices increased 1.9% over the previous month, which was below the 2.4% rise registered in October and marked a three-month low. November’s figure was partly driven by a slowdown in food and beverage price increases as well as in alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Conversely, consumer prices for transportation decreased in November compared with October.

Annual inflation rose from October’s 19.8% to 21.8% in November, which marked the highest rate since January 2009. Inflation has skyrocketed since the onset of the military conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, annual average variation in consumer prices increased from October’s 8.3% to 10.1% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end 2014 at 19.6%, which is up 1.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel sees inflation easing to 10.4%, which is up 2.1 percentage points from last month’s projection.
