Ukraine: Growth decelerates in fourth quarter
January 30, 2012
In the fourth quarter, GDP increased 4.6% over the same period the year before, according to preliminary estimates released by the National Statistics Institute on 30 January. The figure came in below the 6.6% expansion recorded in the third quarter and was broadly in line with last month's Consensus Forecast panellists' projections. A quarter-on-quarter comparison corroborates the deceleration suggested by the annual figures, as the economy increased a seasonally adjusted 0.6% over the previous quarter, which came in below the 2.2% increase observed in the third quarter. Revised and more complete data for GDP will be released around late March. According to the preliminary data, in the full year 2011 the economy expanded 5.2%. The Central Bank expects GDP to grow between 3.0% and 4.0% this year.
