Italy: Business confidence rises in May
Business confidence came in at 110.9 in May, up from April’s 108.4, pointing to improving sentiment among businesses.
The uptick was due to increased optimism of firms in the services and retail sectors. In contrast, sentiment slipped in the construction and manufacturing sectors.
ING’s Paolo Pizzoli said:
“On the business front, confidence contracted further in the manufacturing and construction sectors but improved markedly in services. Here the discriminating factor seems to lie with the different exposure to the consequences of energy price increases and renewed supply chain disruptions materialising in China.”
