Thailand: Trade surplus widens on plummeting imports

In March, the trade balance recorded a USD 1.5 billion surplus, which was an improvement over the USD 1.3 billion surplus observed in the same month last year and the USD 400 million surplus seen in the previous month. The 12-month moving sum of trade recorded a USD 0.6 billion surplus in March, which followed the USD 0.4 billion surplus seen in the previous month.
Exports in March fell 4.4% over the same month last year, which followed the 6.1% decrease observed in the previous month. In addition, imports swung from a 1.5% expansion in February to a 5.9% contraction in March.
