Thailand: Exports rebound strongly in November

In November, the trade balance in Thailand recorded a USD 1.5 billion surplus. The reading was above the USD 0.3 billion surplus observed in the same month of the previous year and the USD 0.3 billion surplus registered in October. The 12-month sum of the trade balance recorded a USD 21.2 billion surplus in November, which was up from the USD 20.0 billion surplus seen in the previous month.

Exports in November grew at a nine-month high of 10.2% on an annual basis, contrasting the 4.2% decline seen in October. Imports decelerated and grew 3.0% in November (October: +6.5% year-on-year).

In 2017, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect exports to increase 1.3% and they see the trade surplus reaching USD 30.1 billion. For 2018, panelists expect exports to expand 2.2%.
