Thailand: Trade deficit decreases in June

In June, the trade balance recorded a USD 1.9 billion deficit. The result was less than the USD 2.3 billion shortfall recorded in May, but exceeded the deficit recorded in the same month last year.
Exports contracted 3.4% annually in June, which followed the 5.2% drop observed in May and contrasted market expectations of a 1.6% expansion. The 12-month sum of exports rose 4.5%. Imports expanded 3.0% in June, contrasting May's 3.5% contraction (12-month sum of imports: +7.6% year-on-year).
In 2013, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panellists expect exports to increase 5.6% to USD 242 billion. For 2014, panellists expect export growth to accelerate to 10.2%, which will push overseas sales to USD 267 billion.
