Thailand: Contraction in manufacturing moderates in September

October 30, 2015

In September, manufacturing production fell 3.6% over the same month last year, which was a weaker contraction than the 8.3% decrease seen in the previous month. The figure marked the softest decrease in six months and was mainly driven by falling output in refinery and in the manufacturing of textiles.

On a monthly basis, manufacturing output contracted 0.3% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted the 2.2% increase seen in August and marked a three-month low. However, annual average growth in industrial production was stable in September at the previous month’s 3.9% decrease.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect manufacturing to expand 1.8% in 2015, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel expects manufacturing to expand 6.1%.
