Taiwan: Industrial production moderates at the end of the year
January 23, 2013
In December, industrial production expanded 2.4% over the same month the year before. The figure was down from the 5.9% expansion seen in November and undershot market expectations, which had anticipated industrial production to increase 6.8%. The monthly reading reflected slower growth in the manufacturing sector as well as a sharp drop in the construction sector.
A month-on-month comparison corroborates the deterioration suggested by the annual figures, as industrial production contracted 0.63% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms, which contrasted the 0.62% rise recorded in November.
In the full year 2012, industrial production fell 0.1% over the same period the previous year, which contrasted the 5.0% expansion tallied in 2011.
