Taiwan: Contraction in industrial production moderates in September

In September, industrial production fell a working-day adjusted 5.3% over the same month last year. The figure was a more moderate decline over the revised 5.7% contraction tallied in August (previously reported: -5.5% year-on-year), which had marked a multi-year low.

A month-on-month comparison shows that industrial output expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.5% in September, which contrasted the revised 1.9% fall tallied in August (previously reported: -1.7% month-on-month). Annual average growth in industrial production fell from 3.2% in August to 2.0% in September, which marked the lowest level since April 2014.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to rise 0.8% in 2015, which is down 0.7 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to reach 3.4%, which is down 0.5 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
