Switzerland: Retail sales rebound in June

In June, retail sales rose a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.5% from the same month last year, rebounding from a 0.8% contraction in May. An increase in sales of food, drinks and tobacco drove June’s result.

On a monthly basis, retail sales adjusted for seasonal factors rose 0.8% in June, following a 0.5% increase in May. The annual average variation in retail sales followed suit rising to minus 1.0% in July from minus 1.4% in June.

Panelists polled by FocusEconomics expect private consumption to expand 1.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel expects private consumption to increase 1.5%.
