Switzerland: Inflation inches up in July

In July, consumer prices fell 0.3% from the previous month, following a 0.1% drop in June. Notably lower prices for clothing and footwear, along with semi-durable goods led the decline.

Inflation inched up to 0.3% in July from 0.2% in June, in line with market expectations. As a result, the annual average variation in inflation also rose, inching up to 0.2% in July from 0.1% in the previous month.

The Central Bank projects that prices will increase 0.3% in both 2017 and 2018. Panelists polled by FocusEconomics expect inflation of 0.5% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect inflation of 0.6%.
