Switzerland: Inflation hits three-month high in March

April 5, 2018

Consumer prices rose 0.4% on a monthly basis in March, in line with February’s print. March’s reading was driven largely by higher package holiday and airfare prices, as well as higher prices for hotel accommodations. On the other hand, medicine and fuel prices fell in the month.

Inflation ticked up to 0.8% from 0.6% in February, a three-month high. Meanwhile, annual average inflation was stable from a month earlier at 0.6%, which was again the highest level in nearly seven years.

Panelists polled by FocusEconomics expect inflation to average 0.7% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2019, panelists expect inflation to average 0.9%.
