Sweden: Industrial production growth decelerates in April

In April, industrial production rose 0.1% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which marked a sharp deceleration compared to the 1.3% growth recorded in March. The figure undershot market expectations of a 0.3% increase. According to Statistics Sweden (SCB), the chemical and pharmaceutical industry showed the largest increase, while electronics and computer manufacturing witnessed the largest decline.

In April, industrial production rose 3.5% over the same month last year, coming in below the 5.6% increase recorded in March. Annual average growth in industrial production in April was level with March’s reading of 4.3%

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 3.1% in 2016, which is up 0.2 percentage points over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 6.8%.
