Sweden: Industrial output growth eases in February but remains robust

April 5, 2017

Industrial production grew just 0.2% in seasonally-adjusted terms in February, which followed the 3.3% expansion recorded in January. According to Statistics Sweden (SCB), growth in February was mainly driven by an expansion in the production of chemicals and pharmaceutical products.

A year-on-year comparison showed that industrial output expanded 4.1% in February, which followed a similarly strong 4.3% in January. The overall trend pointed downwards as annual average growth in industrial production edged down from 1.8% in January to a 16-month low of 1.6% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 2.2% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects that industrial production will also increase 2.2%.
