Sweden: Industrial production rebounds in December

February 5, 2015

Industrial production in December increased 1.7% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which marked the fastest growth in eight months. The expansion contrasted the 0.4% decline recorded in November and overshot the 1.0% increase that the markets had expected. According to Statistics Sweden (SCB), the monthly result reflected a notable increase in the computer and electronics sector, as well as growth in the chemical and pharmaceuticals industry.

In annual terms, industrial production fell 1.6% in December, which was a less-pronounced decline than the 4.6% drop tallied in November. Due to December’s sharp fall, annual average growth in industrial output edged down from minus 1.7% in November to minus 1.9% in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production falling 1.2% in 2015, which is unchanged from the previous month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.4%.
