Spain: Retail sales improve slightly in October

November 30, 2015

In October, retail sales rose 4.8% over the same month last year, which was above September’s revised 4.7% increase (previously reported: +4.4% year-on-year). October’s result marked a 10-month high. The result was driven by robust growth of personal and household equipment. On a seasonal- and calendar-adjusted basis, retail sales in October expanded 5.9% over the same month last year, which was above September’s 4.3% rise.

Meanwhile, the trend continued to improve as annual average growth in retail sales increased from the 3.2% tallied in September to 3.5% in October, thus hitting the highest level since August 2007.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 3.3% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption growth at 2.8%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast.
