Spain: Retail sales flat in June

July 29, 2014

In June, retail sales were flat over the same month last year, which followed the 0.8% increase tallied in May. The flat reading marked the lowest rate in four months. June’s deterioration mostly reflects slower growth in sales of food and household goods. On a working-day adjusted basis, retail sales expanded 0.3% over the same month last year (May: +0.5% year-on-year).

Annual average variation in retail sales improved from minus 0.8% in May to minus 0.2% in June, marking the highest level since May 2008.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.5% in 2014, which is up 0.2 percentage points over last month’s projection. The panel sees private consumption growth at 1.6% in 2015.
