Spain: Growth in retail sales moderates in October

Retail sales rose 0.6% year-on-year in October, well below September’s 3.5% rise. October’s figure was the lowest in almost two years. The price of non-food products and personal equipment rose, while the price of household equipment fell. On a seasonal- and calendar-adjusted basis, retail sales in October expanded 2.2% compared to the same month last year, down from September’s figure of 3.2%.

Annual average growth in retail sales dropped slightly from 4.3% in September to 4.0% in October, the smallest increase in seven months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 3.3% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees private consumption growth at 2.3%, which is also unchanged from last month’s estimate.
