Spain: Industrial production slows to 10-month low in August

October 8, 2014

In August, industrial production rose a working-day adjusted 0.6% over the same month last year, which was below July’s 0.9% increase (previously reported: +0.8% year-on-year). Although the print represented the 10th consecutive monthly expansion, it also marked the softest acceleration since October 2013. The print mainly reflected a sharp decline in production of durable consumer products, capital goods and energy.

Annual average variation of industrial production rose from 1.3% in July to 1.5% in August, marking the highest level since January 2008.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production expanding 1.8% in 2014, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel sees industrial output growth at 2.4%.
