Spain: Industrial production records largest expansion in over four years in April

June 6, 2014

In April, industrial production rose a working-day adjusted 4.3% over the same month last year, which represented the strongest expansion since March 2010. The print followed the revised 0.9% increase recorded in March (previously reported: +0.6% year-on-year) and marked the sixth consecutive month of expansion in industrial output. April’s print mainly reflected a hefty growth in capital goods as well as a healthy expansion in intermediate products.

Annual average variation in industrial production swung from minus 0.1% in March to plus 0.5% in April, marking the highest level since April 2011.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production expanding 1.6% in 2014, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel sees industrial output growth at 2.3%.
