Spain: Industrial production improves in March

In March, industrial production rose 2.8% over the same month last year in working-day adjusted terms, which was above the revised 2.1% increase tallied in February (previously reported: +2.2% year-on-year). The print reflected accelerations in intermediate goods production as well as in capital goods. Annual average variation of industrial production was stable at February’s 3.6%.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in March decreased 1.7% in working-day adjusted terms. The reading contrasted the 5.4% increase seen in February and marked the lowest reading since January 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production expanding 3.1% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees industrial output growth at 2.8%.
