Spain: Industrial production growth moderates slightly in October

Industrial production in Spain expanded 0.5% in working-day adjusted terms in October compared to the same month last year, slightly below the previous month’s 0.6% increase. According to the National Statistical Institute (INE), production of capital and intermediate goods production fell year-on-year in October, while energy and consumer goods production rose. The annual average variation in industrial production edged down from 2.5% in September to 2.2% in October, the lowest figure in over a year.

On a monthly basis, industrial production inched up by 0.1% in October when adjusting for seasonal and calendar effects, contrasting September’s 1.5% fall.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production expanding 2.0% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees industrial output growth at 2.3% which is also unchanged from last month’s estimate.
